State farmers get irrigation schemes

SHILLONG: The State Government Programme Implementation and Monitoring Committee has expressed its happiness with the implementation of the Pradhan Mantri Krishi Sinchayee Yojana (PMKSY) and Har Khet Ko Pani scheme in Meghalaya.
The Chairman of the committee, Saleng Sangma, who reviewed the scheme here in the city, said that the Soil Department has done “a very good job” even after getting 40 percent of the total central funds.
The Centre is committed to according high priority to water conservation and its management and to this effect PMKSY has been formulated to extend the coverage of irrigation ‘Har Khet ko Pani’ and improve water use efficiency for ‘more crop per drop’ in a focused manner with end to end solution on source creation, distribution, management, field application and extension activities.
Sangma said the government should see what kind of seeds are being provided to farmers even as he stressed on the need to yield at least two-three crops under the scheme.
