MAWKYRWAT: The Federation of Khasi-Jaintia and Garo People (FKJGP) Sawsymper Circle, South East Khasi and South Eastern Zone on Thursday conducted a surprise inspection at the government offices in Mawsynram C&RD Block, East Khasi Hills, and found out that most of the offices are working only on market days while one office has not been functioning for three years.
The pressure group has inspected several offices, including those of Soil and Water Conservation, Range Forest Officer Social Forestry Mawsynram Range, the Border Area Development Officer, Veterinary, the Block Development Officer, Mawsynram C&RD, office of the Sub Divisional Officer, PHE Mawsynram Sub-Division and also the Community Health Centre.
During the checking, it was found that in almost all the offices only peons were present and they informed that most of the staff come to office only on market days while officials make appearance only when they have some urgent work.
“According to our findings it was found that Integrated Child Development Services, Public Works Department and Community Health Centre are the only offices in the constituency which are functioning properly,” FKJGP South Eastern Zone, president James Kharbani said.
The organisation informed that among all the offices in Mawsynram, the office of the Soil and Water Conservation is the worst. The office has not even opened its lock for last three years. “It is better for this particular office to close down since it is not even able to open and function once a year.”
FKJGP will soon meet the director of Soil and Water Conservation in this regard.
He also expressed concern about the functioning of government offices in Mawsynram. “Most of the officers’ chairs were empty and only about 30 percent of the staff were attending office,” Kharbani said, adding that this irresponsibility has caused problems for people of the constituency.
The pressure group said they would continue to follow up the case and if they continue to be derelict in their duty, FKJGP would complain to the Deputy Commissioner of East Khasi Hills.
