SHILLONG: Deputy Chief Minister Prestone Tynsong on Friday denied that DD Lapang’s resignation was NPP’s plan as claimed by Congress leader Zenith Sangma.
Talking to media persons, Tynsong said party leaders never met Lapang and even he was shocked to see newspaper reports about his resignation.
Sangma, who is the Congress spokesperson here, had said on Thursday that Lapang went to Delhi with NPP leaders.
Tynsong lashed out at Sangma saying, “I want to know since when we (NPP) have appointed Zenith Sangma as our spokesperson.” He clarified that Chief Minister Conrad Sangma met Lapang in Delhi when he went there for work and the meeting took place after the resignation was submitted to the AICC.
“The way Zenith Sangma is speaking as if it was his plan to throw DD Lapang out from the Congress,” Tynsong said.
Reiterating that NPP’s doors are always open for good leaders like Lapang and Danggo, Tynsong hoped that the two experienced leaders would contribute positively to the functioning of the government.
When asked about the statement that Tynsong was frustrated since he could not become the chief minister, he said, “Zenith Sangma is too young and he is feeling the pain for not being able to form the government immediately after the general elections. I am very happy as we were able to throw Mukul Sangma out of power.”
