Shillong: As part of Rashtriya Poshan Maah celebration, the Office of the Deputy Commissioner, East Khasi Hills District on Saturday organised a Poshan Mela, District level at Government Girls’ Higher Secondary School, Shillong.
The function was graced by PS Dkhar, Deputy Commissioner and Chairperson, District Convergence Plan Committee under National Nutrition Mission, East Khasi Hills District as chief guest in the presence of Prosenjit Dey, headman of Jail Road, M Shira Kshir, EAC, P Khonglah, BDO, Pynursla C&RD Block, teachers, students and others.
Speaking on the occasion, the chief guest said the month-long intensive campaign of Poshan Maah is aimed at ensuring holistic development and adequate nutrition for children, pregnant women and mothers. He also stressed on the needs of consuming proper and healthy diet during infancy and childhood for better future of the society.
During the programme, he also administered the Poshan Abhiyan pledge, release of Poshan Abhiyan postage stamp and handing over of Sukanya Samriddhi Account passbooks to selected girl children below the age of 10.
Others highlights of the Mela includes recipe competition for schools, counter for opening of Sukanya Samriddhi Accounts for girl children below the age of 10 years, displayed of Anganwadi( Services, special Aadhar enrolment camp for Anganwadi Centres beneficiaries, IEC Exhibition and Special Health check up for children below 2 years and pregnant and nursing mothers. Later the chief guest and other dignitaries gave away the prizes to the winners of various competitions.
The Poshan Mela was attended by various district offices including Health, PHE, Social Welfare, Education, Agriculture, Food Civil Supply besides Meghalaya State Rural Livelihoods Society and SHGs from Pynursla C& RD Block. The Department of Post, India Meghalaya Postal Division, Shillong and Ministry of Child Development, Community Food and Nutrition Extension Unit Shillong also participated in the Mela.
