SHILLONG: Rain played spoilsport at the rally called by the Khasi Authors’ Society (KAS) on Saturday throwing the crowd in disarray.
In the rush for shelter, the crowd took refuge under a marquee that was not set up by the KAS but left behind from a previous function. The weak structure of the marquee could not carry the weight of the crowd and collapsed.
The organisers took a few minutes’ break and rushed in along with volunteers to take the injured to an ambulance stationed at the venue.
The injured who were admitted in Civil Hospital were Agilia Rumnong (18) and Pherdistar Marbaniang (20) and three males, Bakiew Kharmuti (29), Justerroi Ryntathiang (35) and Manifes Maner (23).
