SHILLONG: Governor Tathagata Roy has issued the warrant of appointment of the chairman of Meghalaya Lokayukta.
An official source said on Saturday the governor approved the appointment of Pranoy Kumar Musahary, retired judge of the Gauhati High Court, as the chairman a few days ago.
With this, the swearing-in ceremony of the chairman will be scheduled shortly.
The state government hopes that with the appointment of the Lokayukta chairman, the anti-graft panel will be able to start functioning. It will appoint the members of Lokayukta later.
Besides the chairman, the Lokayukta will have four members.
The selection committee under the chairmanship of Chief Minister Conrad Sangma had cleared the appointment of the chairman on July 24. (Contd on P-10)

(Contd from P-1) Earlier, the Supreme Court wanted all the states in the country to complete the process of appointing Lokayukta.
The state government has already apprised the Apex Court of the appointment of the chairman.
