SHILLONG: Raksamgre MLA Benedict R. Marak has shot off a letter to Assam Health Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma urging him to depute food safety officers for surprise checking of all the hotels in Paikan, Meghalaya-Assam border.
The suggestion came from the MLA as private night buses plying from Shillong to Tura stop at Paikan for refreshment, and according to the MLA, the quality of food at the hotels in the area is unhygienic and not fit for human consumption.
Marak also said that the hotels in Paikan lack basic amenities.
He has urged the health minister to direct his officials to inspect all the hotels in Paikan and take necessary action in the interest of the public.
