PHE min gets water project lesson from Sunn

SHILLONG: Mawphlang legislator SK Sunn, who is also a former PHE chief engineer, explained to the young PHE minister the objective of the Greater Shillong Water Supply Project in the Assembly on Monday.
Sunn wanted to know the objective of the project to which Minister Samlin Malngiang said, “The objective of the PHE department is to give water to the people.” Correcting Malgniang, Sunn said he wanted to know the objective of the project and not the department. “The objective of the project is to reduce unaccounted water,” the MLA answered. Earlier, the minister, in a written reply to Sunn’s question, said the components of the project awarded to M/s Tantia Construction Ltd., Kolkata, is placed in the House. He informed that 72% of the work on Phase-III of the project is complete.
Congress MLA Ampareen Lyngdoh raised concerns over poor water storage facility in Pynthorumkhrah saying people get water only once or twice a week. Malngiang cited problems related to laying of pipelines as the reason for erratic supply of water.
