MAWKYRWAT: A teenager has been rescued from his employer’s village in South West Khasi Hills with injuries and trauma.
Khresland Lyngkhoi (59) of Nongdiloin village allegedly tied the 16-year-old boy to a pole and tortured him for more than a week for “stealing money”.
A joint team of district police, the CSWO and HYC members rescued the teenager on Sunday and took him to Mawkyrwat CHC. He was shifted to Civil Hospital Shillong on Monday morning.
“The boy sustained multiple but minor injuries and admitted at Civil Hospital Shillong. He was handed over to the District Child Protection Unit of South West Khasi Hills District,” district police chief HG Lyngdoh said, adding that the boy was tortured since September 17. Lyngdoh said the accused was arrested on Monday.
The boy was working as a cowherd for more than four years. He was tied to a pole in the morning and to the grill of a window at night and was assaulted mercilessly.
CSWO president Agnes Kharshiing said the boy was untied only to eat once a day.
“He (the employer) beat him in his hands and fingers, legs, thighs and face. Lyngkhoi also pierced his ears with iron metal and hurt him with pins,” Kharshiing said.
“The boy told me that Lyngkhoi rubbed chilli in his eyes thrice. He had to work from morning till evening and when hungry he had to drink milk from the cattle,” she added.
