Govt, Hima sign pacts for Mawphlang water project

SHILLONG: The government has come up with two agreements with Hima Mawphlang prior to the implementation of the Greater Shillong Water Supply Project, including construction of dam on the River Umiew in Mawphlang.
This was informed by PHE (Public Health Engineering) Minister Samlin Malngiang replying to a query by Mawphlang MLA SK Sunn in which the minister said altogether two agreements were entered into with Hima of Mawphlang.
The first agreement was signed on September 2, 1978, by the then special secretary and the PHE Department on behalf of the government.
The second was on March 8, 2000, and on behalf of the government in PHE department, Executive Engineers VK War and Sunn signed the agreement.
According to the circulated reply, Malngiang said the provisions of the agreement entered into by the government with traditional heads are being implemented in letter and spirit.
Construction of Borghat-Sonapur road
Deputy Chief Minister Prestone Tynsong said construction of Borghat-Sonapur road has not started and the proposal was made since 2010-2011and submitted to the North Eastern Council.
Tynsong said last month a meeting with the Ministry of Road, Transport and Highways has accepted in principle the request of the government that the road should be from Borkhat to Sonapur and added that the estimated DPR will be re-submitted to the ministry.
