SHILLONG: Deputy Chief Minister Prestone Tynsong in- charge PWD (roads) said on Thursday that the government was committed to improve the roads in South Garo Hills.
In a written reply to a call attention notice tabled by Rakkam Sangma MLA (NPP) on the non- cooperation movement initiated by the pressure group against bad roads in the district, Tynsong said most of the roads had outlived their life cycle and thus needed their rehabilitation.
The MLA had based his call attention motion on the report appeared in Salantini Janera. Tynsong said heavy rainfall and plying of large number of vehicle have also deteriorated the condition of the roads.
While sharing the concerns on the dilapidated condition of the road, Tynsong said after the completion of several road projects for South Garo Hills, the condition of the road will further improve.
In reply to another call attention motion moved by H M Shangpliang (Congress), Tynsong said necessary corrective action will be taken to improve Mawskei Mawdem road in Ri Bhoi.
Shangpliang raised the issue based on the news report regarding the plight of Congress leader John F Kharshiing, who had travelled to the area from Shillong by road.
