SHILLONG: To commemorate a decade of its inception, the Orthopaedics Department of NEIGRIHMS recently organised three regional workshops on advanced arthroscopy for sports injuries, operative fracture care principles and hands on training on suture skills.
The workshops were formally inaugurated on September 24 by the Chief Information Commissioner P.B.O. Warjri, who recalled the notable contributions of the Orthopaedics department in particular and NEIGRIHMS as a whole in bringing advanced healthcare to the region. NEIGRIHMS Director, Prof. D.M. Thappa, released a scientific souvenir in presence of distinguished guests from IIT Guwahati on September 26. The fracture care course was accredited by the prestigious AO Trauma Global Network of Orthopaedic Surgeons. The suture skills training was led by London based Orthopaedic surgeon Dr. Samuel Prasad, FRCS Glasgow.
The live surgery arthroscopy workshop was conducted by Prof. Davinder Singh from Central Institute of Orthopaedics, New Delhi, with the senior Orthopaedic surgeons of NEIGRIHMS.
Endorsing these two-day training courses, the Medical Council of India has accredited these courses with four hours of credit points to the trainees.
The courses were funded and supported by NEC, NEIGRIHMS, North East Regional Orthopaedic Surgeons’ Association and the Arthroscopy Society of North East, among others.)
