SHILLONG: The Army Public School Shillong joined the nation-wide initiative to assemble solar lamps as part of the Diamond Jubilee Celebrations, IIT, Bombay on Tuesday.
Teachers and 150 students of Army Public School came together to assemble the solar lamps as part of the Student Solar Ambassador Workshop.
The unique programme coincided with 150th birth anniversary of Mahatma Gandhi and 5000 students from 100 schools all over India gathered at IIT Bombay campus and learned how to assemble their solar lamps.
The initiative was taken with an aim to help students utilize solar lights for studies. Over one lakh students across the country took part in the workshop.
The Student Solar Ambassador Workshop has been conceptualized under the Solar Urja through Localization for Sustainability (SoULS) initiative, a flagship programme of IIT Bombay aimed at creating a Guinness world record entry.
At Army Public School Shillong, the event was inaugurated by the Principal Rajeevan.P who, motivated the students to generate innovative ideas. The event was guided by the teachers of APS Shillong. The students, who were excited actively participated in the workshop. Students gained skills on assembling of lamp soldering, use of multimeter and renewable energy among others.
