SHILLONG: The Khasi Students’ Union (KSU) Tyrsad circle has requested Health Minister AL Hek to start the sub-centre at Mawsadang and appoint healthcare staff.
President of KSU Tyrsad circle Pynshaiborlang Rani told reporters on Thursday that till date there was only one sub-centre at Tyrsad Umkseh and it could not cater to all patients from different villages.
Rani said the new sub-centre was to cover seven villages of Mawsadang, Pyndenumbri, Lawkhla Mawlong, Lawkhla, Laitniangtlong, Niamsang and Laitryngwai and that some of the villages were in far-flung areas with no road connectivity.
Meanwhile, the KSU Eastern Central Area Unit comprising Mawkynrew, Mawrynkneng and Nongkrem circles urged Hek to upgrade Smit PHC to a full-fledged CHC. President of the unit Michael Lawai told reporters, “There are many patients but insufficient staff to serve them.”
The centre has only 10 beds.
