TURA: A local talent promoter from Garo Hills has reportedly been threatened by unknown persons for his decision to offer free recording of music to upcoming musicians and artistes from the region.

Ahap N Sangma, the Secretary of the Garo Hills Talent Development Society (GHTDS) was allegedly threatened from several phone numbers as well as from fake accounts in Facebook. A screenshot of a comment on a post on Facebook shows one, Ka Raka Mk threatening him that he would be thrashed and his vehicle along with him pelted with stones.

Soon after Sangma received the threats, an FIR was filed at the Tura Police Station against unknown persons.

It may be mentioned that the GHTDS was first formed in 2011 and got registered under the Meghalaya Societies Registration Act XII of 1983 on April 30 2014. Interestingly, another new group calling itself the Garo Hills Youth Talent Development Society (GHYTDS) just recently announced its formation from Dobasipara in Tura. Learning of the new body’s formation, Ahap had through a statement in the media urged the new body to change its name. However, the suggestion was challenged and the new body refused to change the name and even demanded proof on the existence of the GHTDS.

“These same persons may or may not be the ones who are threatening me. I urged authorities to look into the matter and take action against the culprits including against the user of the fake account on Facebook,” Sangma said in the FIR.
