SHILLONG: The NPP-led MDA government has crossed all limits compared to the previous Congress-led MUA-II government in appointing advisors whether it is for Chief Minister Conrad Sangma or the government.
With the appointment of former chief minister DD Lapang, there are as many as five advisors to assist either the chief minister or the government.
Earlier, when Lapang was the chief advisor to the Meghalaya government, it remained as a post to rehabilitate him.
As per the sequence of appointments, North Tura NPP legislator Thomas Sangma was the first one to be appointed as the advisor to the chief minister.
Later, Allantry Franklin Dkhar of UDP and Arlene Sangma of NPP were appointed with the same designation of political advisor and secretary to the chief minister. The perks and allowances are under Category A.
Subsequently in June, the government appointed retired senior bureaucrat from Delhi CV Ananda Bose as advisor to the Meghalaya government.
According to the notification, the appointment of Bose as advisor (policy coordination and governance) under the Planning Department is for one year.
However, Bose is not operating from Shillong though a room has been allotted to him in the Main Secretariat.
After assuming office in July, he held his first meeting with the Cabinet ministers and officers.
It is yet to be known under what category both Thomas and Bose were placed.
