SHILLONG: Leader of the Opposition Mukul Sangma is worried over ‘haphazard’ transfer of police officers and has asked Chief Minister Conrad Sangma to discuss the matter in the State Security Commission at the earliest.
In a letter to Conrad, Mukul said in the last few months, “a number of haphazard and irregular transfers of police officers across different ranks and files has been effected” and this has “vitiated the environment” in the organisation because most of these transfers were outcome of “political interference”.
“It is imperative to note that the police organisation plays a crucial role in the whole process of ‘Administration of Justice’, besides the burden of various other responsibilities of attending to call of duty as per mandate of law,” Mukul said.
“This whole action resorted to by the authorities due to political interference is in contravention of the provisions of the Meghalaya Police Act, 2010, creating an unhealthy precedence which will have a serious bearing on the whole process of Administration of Justice,” he added.
