Franciscan body campaigns for a dirt-free Mawkyrwat

SHILLONG: The youths of Franciscan Youth Federation (FYF) of the three units, Mawthawïang, Jashiar and Marshillong on Saturday campaigned for a cleaner and dirt-free Mawkyrwat.
They organised street plays and dances to convey the message that it depends on the vendors and buyers to keep the market clean.
The FYF leaders thanked the district authorities, those who man the market and Dorbar Shnong for giving an opportunity to do something good for the society.
The initiative of FYF was part of following the ideals of their patron, Francis D’Assisi, the acclaimed patron of ecology and lover of mother nature whose famous maxim was: “Make me an Instrument of Peace”.
The Franciscan Youth Federation, popularly known as FYF is a youth wing of the Franciscan Brothers, Northeast India, with its headquarters at Mawlai Kyntonmassar, Shillong. The association has membership in Assam, Arunachal Pradesh, and Meghalaya.
The members consist of all people of good will who desire to live the ideals of Francis D’Assisi irrespective of their religions.
This year, the FYF in Northeast India has entered its 11th year of Journey.
All the FYF members from various tribes of Northeast used to come together for an annual meet for interactions in the past .
This year, the FYF Mawthawïang Unit, Southwest Khasi Hills will host the 11th annual meet of ‘FYF Northeast India 2018’ at Saint Francis Mount, Tynsom, Mawthawïang on October 19,20 and 21. On the concluding day of the annual meet, tribes of different FYF units will showcase their tradition and culture in the form of dances and plays.
