JICA’s Dawki road project on track

SHILLONG: The road project connecting the city to Dawki, funded by Japan International Corporation Agency (JICA), is on right track, said Deputy Chief Minister in-charge PWD (Roads) Prestone Tynsong.
Tynsong said forest clearance has been given for the Rs 1,300-crore project while the Ministry of Road Transport and Highways is awaiting clearance from the Defence Ministry regarding the allotment of 5 km defence land for expansion of the road.
While the road from Umshyrpi to 7th Mile in Upper Shillong will be four-lane, the remaining part till Dawki will be two-lane.
Rs 172 crore sanctioned
Tynsong said the state government has received Rs 172 crore from the Centre’s PMGSY scheme for upgradation of state roads and another Rs 250-300 crore is expected from the Centre.
“Our target of upgradation of road is not less than 3,000 km,” he added.
