TURA: Amid tears of sadness and heart wrenching cries, a large number of supporters of Late Clement Marak paid tribute to their departed leader on the arrival of his mortal remains at Selsella constituency on Wednesday afternoon.

The body of Late Clement Marak was brought in a convoy from Shillong to his constituency where it was kept in state at his home for a couple of hours to give time for his supporters and well-wishers to bid farewell to their leader for the last time.

“The body arrived in Selsella at around 4:30 PM and was kept at his home for about three hours. A large number of his supporters have been coming to the place for the last two days, since hearing of his untimely demise, waiting to pay their last homage to the leader,” informed congress workers from Selsella.

Several Congress leaders from the state, including former chief minister Mukul Sangma, senior Congress legislator and former speaker Charles Pyngrope and MLA H M Shangpliang were among the many who escorted the mortal remains of Clement Marak from Shillong to Selsella.

At the time of going to print, the body was being brought back to Tura where it will be kept at his home in Hawakhana before the last rites take place on Thursday morning.

The funeral cortege, carrying the mortal remains of the Selsella MLA, is expected to move from his home at approximately 11:30 Thursday morning to the Hawakhana Baptist church for the church service after which it will be taken to his final resting place at the Rongkhon Songgital Baptist cemetery.
