TURA: The state government has, for the first time, opened a unit of the Chief Minister’s Secretariat in Tura in an effort to bring governance closer to the people of Garo Hills.
The office, which has been set up at the Commissioner of Divisions Office at Dakopgre, was inaugurated by Chief Minister Conrad Sangma on Thursday.
A statement issued here informed that the chief minister will be available in the office during his visit to Tura.
The Tura CMO has a dedicated officer to receive proposals, request for appointment with the chief minister and other related matters. It will function on all weekdays.
“The office will help the people of Garo Hills who come all the way to Shillong for official work. With the setting up of the Tura office, people will save money and time travelling to Shillong. Now, they can apprise or send their letter of request to me or submit proposals,” said Conrad on the first day of office.
