Religious leaders asked to fight plastic pollution

SHILLONG: The Divisional Forest Officer, East Garo Hills Social Forestry Division, RK Marak wrote to leaders of all festival committees of Durga Puja as well as all religious leaders under East and North Garo Hills Districts to beat plastic pollution.
In a statement issued here, Marak said the leaders should discourage devotees and public on the use of plastic products and encourage the use of reusable bag.
The officer urged the leaders to introduce waste segregation of different coloured bins and waste recycling and to put up a notice at the entrance to prohibit the use of plastic items in the premises.
