TURA: Villagers of Chimechamgre in South West Garo Hills apprehended two “suspicious” persons from neighbouring Assam on Saturday night and thrashed them before handing over to the police.
Police said the two were yet to be identified as they are undergoing treatment. “We still don’t know who they are and why they have entered the village late at night. But when villagers saw them, they were suspicious and started beating them up.
One of the men sustained a fractured leg. They were handed over to us and we have taken them to Tura for treatment,” a senior police official said.
According to the official, no case has been registered.
Villages in the district near the borders with Assam and Bangladesh have been on high alert after a series of robberies and thefts were reported in the recent past.
