SHILLONG: The Meghalaya People’s Committee on Aadhaar (MPCA) will study the possibility of filing a review petition before a larger bench of the Supreme Court.
The MPCA held a meeting on Monday at the Khasi National Durbar Hall, Mawkhar, where it was decided that the committee would start the “opting out from Aadhaar enrolment” drive.
The opt-out campaign will be particularly for those 1,564 persons who had written to the UIDAI and submitted representation before the Supreme Court to be allowed to opt out of Aadhaar enrolment. Others who wish to withdraw from Aadhaar enrolment as per the recent apex court ruling will also be part of the campaign.
The MPCA said those who wished to opt out of Aadhaar can approach the Khasi Students’ Union central office in Jaiaw on October 29.
With the SC ruling, private telecom companies cannot demand one’s Aadhaar ID while Aadhaar has been made mandatory for the filing of IT returns and allotment of PAN.
