TURA: A mini truck illegally transporting logs from Garo Hills to Assam was recently intercepted and seized by organisations from North Garo Hills at Bajengdoba Line Ading.
The illegal consignment was being transported at night when organisations from the area which included the Line Ading Dimakkra Youth Club, Bakenang Youth Club, AYWO and FKJGP stopped the vehicle and took it into their possession.
The seized truck has since been handed over to the Mendipathar GDC Forest Range Office.
“Due to smuggling of timber from different parts of Garo Hills through NH-51 every night, Garo Hills is gradually losing its forest cover. If this is allowed to continue, it will become a desert in the near future,” the secretary of the Dimakkra Youth Club said.
