Normalcy restored in Tripura, Section 144 continues

Agartala: The situation becomes normal today in Lalit Bazar area of Chakbasta village under Ranirbazar police station of Agartala on the fourth day after tension erupted following molestation of a tribal girl by some local Muslim youths in a predawn attack on October 18 last on her way back home with her boy friend.
District administration has imposed 144 of CrPC in the area on Saturday after some local tribal assaulted Muslims in the area and set some houses on fire protesting the incident that led to exodus of more than 350 minority people from the village out of fear.
Meanwhile police arrested four persons identified as Anawar Hussain (25), Kamal Miah (27), Amir Hussaain (32) and Abdul Hussain (35) in the charges of molestation and the local court sent them to three days jail custody. However, allegedly a group of tribal youths continued the perpetration on Muslim families in the locality that triggered communal tension between tribal and non-tribal.
Besides, imposition of 144 of CrPC and police a large contingent of CRPF was deployed in the locality for protection of the villagers. However, there is no fresh violence is reported in the village so far. Nobody was also arrested in connection with the perpetration of the villagers. The prohibitory order would be continued till full normalcy is restored, said the police.
According to report, the agitated tribal youths beaten up three Muslim villagers, set four houses on fire, looted three shops and household items from five houses in the locality. (UNI)
