MAWKYRWAT: In a major boost to the HSPDP Mawkyrwat unit before the 2019 council polls, 41 leaders and supporters of different parties have joined the regional entity on Tuesday.
HSPDP leader and Mawkyrwat MLA Renikton L Tongkhar said on Tuesday with the support pouring in, the party would perform well in the council election.
Most of the new entrants are from NPP and PDF. Daros Ramsiej, who was an NCP candidate in the February election, and his supporters also joined the HSPDP. They pleaded to support to any candidate that the party nominates for the council polls.
Welcoming them into the party fold, Tongkhar urged them to enroll as members of the party through the primary units in their respective villages.
“With your joining, I could see that we will be stronger in the council election and I am confident that we will win. More people will join the party in the coming days. Many leaders have contacted us and now they are gathering their friends and supporters and soon they will also join the HSPDP,” he added.
The HSPDP, which will celebrate its 50th anniversary next month, will release the first list of council poll candidates by this month or the next. Tongkhar appealed to leaders and other members of the party to remain united and unanimously support the candidates that the leadership nominates.
The HSPDP was formed on November 10, 1968. “The celebration will commence on November 10 and on this day we will also inaugurate the office of the party near Shillong College,” said the MLA.

The closing ceremony of the 50 years celebrations will be held on December 15 in Shillong in which a public meeting will be organised.
