SHILLONG: The number of calls being received by the 108 emergency service in Shillong has dropped drastically since Airtel calls are not landing in the call centre of the service here in Shillong

State Head of 108 Dipankar Chaudhury said, “ If You dial 108 from airtel, either the call just ends or it says the number does not exist.”

He said that the 108 emergency service was receiving  7000-800 calls per day but now it has been reduced to 250-300 calls per day even as he added that during the awareness programme in villages, the services got the feedback that they couldn’t get through the emergency number and most of them are airtel users.

Stating that the Airtel calls are not landing in the call centre from long time, he added that the matter was taken up with the Airtel authorities but their response was very  cold

He said that after the closure of  Aircel, many migrated to Airtel

“ From my own office I tried calling  108 but the calls are not going through,” he said while adding that the Airtel authorities  were asked to come to the headquarters on Thursday to sort out the problem but they are dilly dallying the entire matter,” he said.
