SHILLONG: International Fossil Day was organised by Geological Survey of India (GSI), North Eastern Region (NER), Shillong for the first time.
The event was inaugurated by the Additional Director General & HOD, GSI, NER, Mulkh Raj Jarngal. Students from Glakyn Academy, Shillong have visited the exhibition and interacted with the Geoscientist of GSI.
According to GSI, the North Eastern Region has a fossil record from all the three eras of Geological time scale such ad Palaeozoic, Mesozoic and Cenozoic.
In Meghalaya, Cretaceous-Palaeogene boundary in the Um Sohryngkew river section at Therriaghat established by foraminiferal biozonation.
