One-time tax on vehicles to go up

SHILLONG: The state Cabinet on Monday approved a proposal of the Transport Department to increase the one-time tax on various categories of vehicles.
Talking to media persons after the Cabinet meeting, Deputy Chief Minister Prestone Tynsong said the Cabinet has decided to increase the one-time tax to 4 per cent on vehicles whose original cost is up to Rs 3 lakh.
The Cabinet also decided to increase the one-time tax to 6 per cent on vehicles costing Rs 3 lakh and above, adding that the tax on vehicles costing between Rs 15-20 lakh has been increase to 8 percent, said the deputy chief minister while adding that the last enhancement was done in 2011.
Replying to a query, Tynsong said the annual revenue will increase by Rs 22-23 crore in view of the increase of the tax on vehicles.
