UDP names Mawthoh as Lok Sabha common candidate

SHILLONG: The United Democratic Party (UDP) has declared its former legislator Jemino Mawthoh as the common MDA candidate from Shillong Lok Sabha seat.
With the UDP having gone ahead with declaring the candidate, another hurdle for Mawthoh is the approval of his candidature by the allies, many of whom were contemplating contesting independently.
Addressing reporters on Tuesday, UDP vice-president Allantry Dkhar said, “After a lot of thought and deliberations, it is finally decided (that) Dr Jemino Mawthoh is the MP candidate of United Democratic Party from Shillong seat.”
To a query, Dkhar expressed optimism saying the party’s confidence “is at the highest level”.
The party also declared the second list of council poll candidates on Wednesday. Out of the 29 seats for JHADC, nine seats declared were from East Jaintia Hills. The candidates are Emlangki Lamare from Narpuh, Shanbor Lamare from Sutnga-Nongkhlieh, Sangki Shangpung from Bataw Lakadong and Laski Rymbai from Tuber.
West Jaintia Hills which has 19 seats, UDP was able to declare candidates for War-East (Lamdibok Sumer), Nongjngi (Suklang Shylla), Mookaiaw (Eliza Dkhar), Raliang (Bison Roy Iano) and Jowai Central (Kitboklang Nongtdu).
The UDP declared candidates for seven seats in the Khasi Hills Autonomous District Council (KHADC). In East Khasi Hills, the candidates are Ryngkat Lyndem (Langkyrdem-Laitkroh), Lutphar Dkhar (Nongshken), Philemon Kharmyndai (Sohiong-Nongspung) and Chris Kharsati (Sohryngkham).
For Shillong city seat, Malki-Laitumkhrah constituency the candidate is Antonio War. In South West Khasi Hills, Nassar Marwein has been named from Langrin and Anvil Lyngdoh from Mawkyrwat.
The remaining 12 candidates will be declared later.
