SHILLONG: The Legislative Wing of the Khasi Hills Autonomous District Council (KHADC) has sent the four bills passed by the Council to Governor, Tathagata Roy and the District Council Affairs department on Wednesday.
KHADC Chief Executive Member Hispreachering Son Shylla said the Council is likely to seek the appointment from the Governor in the next few days to impress upon him to give his assent to the bills passed by the Council.
“We would also be raising the resolution passed by the Council to apply the provisions of the Bengal Eastern Frontier Regulation, 1873 for implementation of Inner Line Permit (ILP) in areas falling under the Council’s jurisdiction,” Shylla said.
He also said that the delegation of the Executive Committee (EC) of the Council would also meet Chief Minister Conrad K Sangma to explain on the stand of the Council with regards to the passing of the Bill in relation for implementation of the ILP in areas under the Council.
The Bengal Eastern Frontier Regulation, 1873 is one of the regulations included in the United Khasi-Jaintia Hills District (Application of Laws) Regulation, 1952 which is in force in the KHADC and the regulation is now adapted in the form of KHAD (The Inner Line) Regulation, 2018.
Besides, the other three Bills passed by the Council include Khasi Social Custom of Lineage Bill, 2018, Subordinate Council of Traditional Chiefs and Headmen Bill, 2018 and the Town Committee Rules for implementation of the building by-laws of the Council.
