ULFA (I) denies hand in Thursday night’s killing in Tinsukia, Assam

GUWAHATI: Even as different organizations and individuals have condemned the dastardly killing of five innocent persons on Thursday night by an armed gang of marauders at Saikhowaghat, Dhola in Tinsukia district of Assam, the banned United Liberation Front of Asom (Independent) or the ULFA-I has denied its involvement in the massacre.

In a statement issued to the media on Friday morning the ULFA-I member, Publicity department, Romel Asom stated, “ The United Liberation Front of Asom (Independent) would like to make it clear to all concern authorities that our organisation does not have any involvement in the firing incident that occurred on Ist November, 2018 at Sadiya Saikhowaghat in Tinsukia district.”

Five persons were killed and at least one other injured when armed miscreants militants carried out a massacre of innocent  people at  Kherbari at Saikhowaghat in Dhola in easternmost Assam on Thursday night triggering widespread condemnation in the state.
The slain persons were identified as Subal Das, Shyamol Biswas,  Abinash Biswas, Dhananjoy Namasudra and Ananta Biswas.
Police said the armed ultras in camouflage fatigue lined up the villagers before opening indiscriminate firing.
The Chief Minister, Sarbananda Sonowal while condemning the dastardly incident has asked the state Director General of Police (DGP), Kuladhar Saikia and ADGP Mukesh Agarwal to rushed to the incident district Tinsukia district of Assam.
Sonowal has also asked ministers Keshab Mahanta and Tapan Gogoi to the place of violence talk to people  and ensure that peace prevails.
Police and the Army have cordoned off the area to launched a search operation to nab the culprits. The area is close to the Assam-Arunachal Pradesh boundary.
The Chief Minister has alerted all the deputy commissioners and superintendents of police in all the districts to take preventive measures to thwart any design to create disturbance in the state.
