GUWAHATI: The third season of Guwahati Theatre Festival will have four globally acclaimed plays for theatre buffs at the Pragjyoti ITA auditorium, Machkhowa here from November 16 to 18.
Laughter Therapy featuring Mona Singh who is well known for her iconic role of Jassi (Jasmeet Walia) in the TV serial, Jassi Jaissi Koi Nahin, will be staged on the opening day to set the tone.
On the second day, Detective 9-2-11, a nerve-wracking but thoroughly exhilarating escape drama, directed by Atul Kumar, is set to grip the audience. The play will feature renowned actors like Neil Bhoopalam and Sukant Goyel among others.
The concluding day has two plays in store, starting from Foreign Body, which is a 100-minute play in English language. It is a beautifully crafted solo show by Imogen Butler-Cole about hope, healing and forgiveness after sexual assault.
The other play is Stories in a Song, which tells stories of musical forms such as kajri, thumri, dadra, khayal, remixes and more. Directed by Sunil Shanbag, the play features actors such as Sukant Goel, Saurabh Nayyar and Namit Das.
“It gives me immense pleasure to be part of a festival that has set benchmarks in the cultural arena of the city. Theatre as always been an inseparable part of my life and associating with GTF will make this experience memorable and priceless”, festival advisor, Abhijit Hazarika, said.
The festival shall also witness theatre workshops conducted by Namit Das and Atul Kumar for schools and college students respectively. The last date for registration is November 10.
This theatre festival has this season joined hands with Guwahati City Round Table 239 (GCRT 239) to promote and propagate theatre.
Round Table India is a young businessmen and professionals club with the key objective of community service focusing on building infrastructure for education of underprivileged children. It has so far built 6,189 classrooms in 2,588 schools with a total outlay of Rs 244.65 crore.
