TURA: Grade IV government employees from Garo Hills under the banner of the Garo Hills Grade IV Association have submitted a memorandum to Chief Minister, Conrad Sangma urging him to review various issues plaguing the employees.
One of the demands of the employees is to release the remaining 60% of their arrears at one go as they feel that the amount is too small if it is received in installments. The state government had decided to release the arrears of all employees in three installments of 40:30:30. However, stating that the amount was too small if received in installments for Grade IV employees who receive meager salary amounts, the employees urged that the remaining 60% arrear is released in one go.
The association also appealed to the government to revive ‘appointment on compassionate grounds’ as it immensely benefited families of those who died in service while it was still in existence. “When a bread earning member dies in a family, it is very difficult for the affected family to sustain themselves without any means of earning. Therefore, we insist upon the government that it reintroduces the system,” it said.
The association also sought the enhancement of House Rent, Medical and Hills Allowances in the memorandum as well as the regularization of their services keeping in view the duration of their services.
