SHILLONG: The much-awaited Umsning bypass may be completed by the middle of December instead of November end, officials of the National Highway Authority of India have said.
The officials said the contractor of the project will finish work by December 15 but the highway authority has asked him to expedite the work.
“The contractors have maintained that they will finish the work by November 30 and some more days will be required for safety auditing of the road,” the officials added.
The road is currently open for traffic and vehicles are plying on a single lane on several stretches.
An NHAI official said work is 100 percent completed and “some minor works are required to be done at the two junctions, besides fitting metal beam and crash barriers”.
The project was supposed to be completed on October 31.
Meanwhile, the National Highway Authority of India officials said they were not getting land for a second toll plaza on the Jowai-Ratacherra road that was recently inaugurated by Road Transport and Highways Minister Nitin Gadkari during his visit to the state.
