SHILLONG: The East Khasi Hills district administration has issued directives for revellers, especially on Diwali, following the Supreme Court order on firecrackers.
The deputy commissioner has prohibited bursting of crackers beyond the two hours stipulated during all major festivals, including Diwali on Wednesday.
The timing for selling firecrackers by wholesale and retailers has been fixed from 10 am on Tuesday and Wednesday and that for bursting low decibel and low emission crackers has been fixed from 8 pm to 10 pm in the entire district.
The DC said any deviance from the order “will invite strict action as per law”.
The order further said any bursting of crackers for religious, social or cultural purposes will necessitate permission in writing from the office of the deputy commissioner failing which parties concerned will be held responsible.
