SHILLONG: Former KHADC chief PN Syiem, who was the lone member on the opposition bench, finally extended support to the executive committee of the Khasi Hills Democratic Alliance led by NPP’s HS Shylla.
Addressing the media on Monday, Shylla said, “All the five MDCs have already extended support to the EC of the Khasi Hills Democratic Alliance. Now that he (Syiem) has extended support to us, it will be for the betterment of the council.”
According to him, unity among local leaders like former KHADC CEM Ardent Basaiawmoit and others is crucial to address the challenges faced by the indigenous community.
Syiem, who is the chairman of the People’s Democratic Front, was left alone by his MDCs when they extended support to the ruling alliance. PDF members in the council had earlier questioned the functioning of the newly formed party.
With this latest development, there will be no opposition in the KHADC.
Speaking to reporters, Syiem, when asked about the reason for the move, said, “My friends are there so I have to go along.”
