SHILLONG: The state government has not paid compensation to those who gave land for the Umtru Hydro Project in Byrnihat as per the agreed amount, an RTI has revealed.
As per an RTI filed by Disparsing Rani from Meghalaya Energy Corporation Limited (MeECL), Lum Jingshai, 20 land owners did not get the required compensated amount of Rs 250 per sqm.
The Rs 629-crore hydel project was inaugurated by former chief minister Mukul Sangma in January. The 53 land owners were told by Sangma to appeal to the MeECL office. Rani maintained that the land owners should sign an agreement before giving their land to the state government.
