SHILLONG: A delegation from the three district councils will meet District Council Affairs Minister James Sangma on November 15, said KHADC chief executive member HS Shylla on Thursday.
Speaking to reporters, Shylla said the three-day KHADC session will commence on November 20 in which separate autonomous district council rules for KHADC will be introduced.
“We were following the AD rules of Assam-Meghalaya but we will frame a separate set of rules of the Khasi Hills Autonomous District Council. Other autonomous district councils will have separate rules,” he added.
The delegation that will meet Sangma will have a discussion on these rules.
The other district councils of Jaintia Hills and Garo Hills will have to frame separate rules ensuring their autonomy.
Shylla said there are bills about Khasi chiefdoms (Hima) and resolution on adding the word “United” to the KHADC.
After India’s independence, the United Khasi-Jaintia Hills Autonomous District Council was created.
Khasi-Jaintia district was the British areas which included the 25 Khasi states and hence the name United Khasi-Jaintia Hills Autonomous District Council.
“The title of Khasi Hills Autonomous District Council is incorrect. It should retain the word United and be called United Khasi Hills Autonomous District Council as the 25 Khasi states are united with the Khasi British areas,” Shylla said.
To solicit views for the Khasi Clan Bill, he informed that the organised clans are invited to attend the clan meeting on November 13 in which representatives from each clan can attend to solicit their views for the bill.
