Quack robs woman in WKH
NONGSTOIN: A 53-year-old woman filed an FIR against a quack doctor who in the pretext of medical treatment robbed her gold, silver and money in Mawlarshong, New Nongstoin recently. The quack, Dipak Lama and his accomplice went to Tulsi Chetri’s quarter to treat her as she was complaining of pain on her fingers. However, on the second visit, they demanded the woman to pay them with gold, silver along with Rs 17,660. As part of the treatment, the quack gave the woman a mixture which made her unconscious after drinking it allowing them to take away her gold, silver and money. A case has been registered and the matter is under investigation.
UDP public secy resigns
SHILLONG: Teilang Lyngdoh resigned from the UDP as the publicity secretary of Shillong city, UDP and also from the primary membership of the party. He added that he has been associated with the party since the time of Hill’s People Union (HPU) till date.
Former Myntri accuses KHADC of playing politics
SHILLONG: Former Myntri of Hima Mylliem, Jamphrang Nongkhlaw alleged the Khasi Hills Autonomous District Council (KHADC) of playing politics pertaining to the appointment of Myntri from the Nongkhlaw clan. Speaking to reporters on Thursday, Nongkhlaw said he was removed as Myntri and the KHADC instead appointed Iaineh Nongkhlaw as the Myntri of Nongkhlaw. He said the former Acting Syiem of Hima Mylliem, Ricky Nelson Syiem said that he should be re-instated as Myntri of Nongkhlaw but the KHADC never paid any heed to the pleas. The apathy of the KHADC prompted him to approach the District Council Court. Jamphrang was appointed as Myntri Nongkhlaw on September 22, 2014 and was later removed.
W’nagar music school conducts first ever concert and recital
TURA: The Educere School of Music, Williamnagar conducted its first concert and recital at the District Auditorium, Willamnagar recently. East Garo Hills Additional Deputy Commissioner, A Ch Marak graced the occasion as Chief Guest while Director of Bosco School of Music, Tura, Tengrang Sangma was the Guest of Honour. During the concert, the schoolchildren of Educere Secondary School and choir performed dances and choral presentations while recital on violin, guitar, piano and vocals was done by the student of Educere School of Music, Williamnagar. Meanwhile, Internationally awarded music composer, designer, singer and film maker, Mikhail Marak was also felicitated.
HSPDP to celebrate golden jubilee
SHILLONG: The Hill State People’s Democratic Party (HSPDP) will celebrate the Golden Jubilee on Saturday at the premises of its newly constructed office building, Boyce Road near PGT college, Laitumkhrah. The party office was founded by late Hopingstone Lyngdoh on November 10, 1968. The closing ceremony of the celebration will be on December 15. The souvenir of the party will be released, the bust of late Hopingstone Lyngdoh will be unveiled, the Hill State Movement volunteers will also be felicitated.
Leprosy case detection campaign in Nongpoh
Nongpoh: The office of the District Medical & Health Officer, Ri Bhoi District in a press communique issued informed that a Leprosy Case Detection Campaign (LCDC) will be organised in Ri Bhoi District from November 12 to November 14 this year. The programme will be jointly organised by State Health Department and National Health Mission together with the National Leprosy Control Programme. The Leprosy Case Detection Campaign is a unique initiative under the National Leprosy Control Programme with the main objective to detect early cases of leprosy affected persons so that they can be saved from physical disability and deformity by providing them early treatment and thus halting the transmission of the disease.
Workshop on cattle dairy ranch held in Mawkyrwat
Mawkyrwat: With a view to promote Cattle Dairy Ranch in the district which has so much scope and potentiality, the office of the District Animal Husband & Veterinary on Thursday organised a one-day workshop for farmers at the Multipurpose Hall, Laitlawsang. Farmers from Mawmerang, Rangthong, Photjaud Rangthong and other adjoining areas also attended. Addressing the gathering as Chief Guest, South West Khasi Hills Deputy Commissioner, Isawanda Laloo said that through this workshop, farmers from different villages can exchange and share their experiences and also sought the help of resource persons in order to enrich their skills, hone their talents on how to set up and improve the business of Cattle Dairy Ranch.
