SHILLONG: The Opposition Congress has slammed the NPP-led MDA Government shortly after CSWO president Agnes Kharshiing was attacked in East Jaintia Hills while she was inquiring about the existence of illegal coal mining mafia.

Talking to The Shillong Times, Congress  spokesperson, HM Shangpliang while condemning the attack on Kharshiing and her colleague said that the Leader of Opposition had been repeatedly telling the Government that illegal coal mining was going on but the Chief Minister next day itself gave a clean chit with assertion that there was no  illegal mining taking place in the state.

“ But Now it has been proved that illegal mining is taking place on a daily basis with several seizure of coal trucks,”  Shangpliang added

Stating that the whole issue  needs to be inquired as how to the coal is being illegally mined and how it is being transported, Shangpliang added that the Government  could not  sit idle on the issue and it was time  for the Government to act because something was going wrong somewhere

“ Government has to come out clean and substantiate all the happenings,” Shangpliang added
