SHILLONG: The BJP that did not perform well in the Assembly election in February is hoping for better results in the KHADC election next year and has already started its preparations.
BJP state president Shibun Lyngdoh said on Friday the party’s district and mandal committees “are in the process of identifying candidates”.
“Meetings are taking place in different districts to identify potential candidates. Once we get potential candidates, we will send the names to the central leadership for approval,” said Lyngdoh.
The BJP wants to contest the district council election because “unless we contest, how will we strengthen the base of the party”.
The party contested over 40 seats in the Assembly polls but managed to win only two, that too in the urban constituencies.
