SHILLONG: The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), an ally with two MLAs in the NPP-led MDA Government, is preparing to contest the Lok Sabha elections.
BJP state president Shibun Lyngdoh said that every party has the right to contest the elections.
Stating that discussions are yet to be held in the alliance for the common candidate, he said that in the last meeting, the MDA directed all the political parties to conduct meetings in their parent parties and let the MDA know about their decision as far as contesting the Lok Sabha polls is concerned.
“We are yet to have a meeting and in the next meeting, we as a party will share our views in the alliance,” he said.
Echoing similar views with the party, Pynthorumkhrah MLA and Cabinet minister AL Hek said that BJP should contest the Lok Sabha polls.
He, however, said, “At the end of the day, we are in the MDA and we cannot go against the alliance. We have to see that the government lasts five years and we have to see the interest of the alliance as well.”
The UDP wants to project Jemino Mawthoh as the common candidate while the PDF too claims that they have a nominee who can be a common candidate.
