Special Assembly session sought on scheduling of Khasi, Garo languages

SHILLONG : The Regional Democratic Alliance (RDA) has urged the state government to convene the special session of the   Meghalaya Legislative Assembly at the earliest to modify the  earlier resolution passed for inclusion of Khasi and Garo language in the   Eighth Schedule of the Constitution.

“ We want the Government to summon the special session at the earliest so that the resolution can be modified,”  HSPDP MLA Renikton Lyngdoh Tongkhar said.

The Meghalaya Legislative Assembly had recently taken a resolution asking the Centre to include Khasi and Garo languages in the Eighth Schedule of the Constitution However, the government would again have to pass a resolution with certain modifications.
