SHILLONG: The Assembly Committee on Women Empowerment will take up the matter pertaining to recent attack on CSWO president, Agnes Kharshiing and her colleague, Amita Sangma during its meeting on Thursday.
Informing this here on Monday, MLA and chairman of the committee, Ampareen Lyngdoh said that she would suggest to the committee to summon police heads to submit reports on the inhumane attack on the woman activists.
“The meeting will take its own course of action to be taken up and as a Chairman of the committee, I will demand for independent judicial inquiry,” Lyngdoh said.
Lyngdoh who also visited NEIGRIHMS on Tuesday to check on Kharshing further said that she would suggest the committee that Women Commission should rally with the committee to seek justice on her behalf
It may be mentioned that the Committee of Empowerment of Women examines measures taken by the government to secure equality, status and dignity for women in all matters.
It also examines the measures taken by the government for comprehensive education and adequate representation of women in services and other fields. It also examines such other matters as it may deem fit.
“ Women Empowerment is not to be treated as a special tag for the fairer gender. It is a fact that women are challenged in all spheres – at place of work, in politics, in religious forums, in social platforms, in family and state decision taking and so on,” Lyngdoh said
She also felt that women Empowerment is necessary and crucial to ensure that their opinions, voices and thoughts are heard, circulated and taken into consideration for a balanced execution of governance.
“Women Rights continue to suffer across the board and as Chairman of this committee, I will spearhead all necessary attention towards atrocities and crimes against women in our state,” she added.
