SHILLONG: The youth wing of Khun Hynniewtrep National Awakening Movement (KHNAM) closed the IGNOU office on NEHU campus, Shillong, for operating on the occasion of Nongkrem Dance on Monday.
In a statement issued here, the KHNAM maintained that on state holidays, government or private offices should remain closed which is deemed as special days for the indigenous people.
Furthermore, urging the State Government to enlighten the offices about special occasions, it said that a notification should be sent to these offices from the beginning of the year.
Trading license
KHNAM youth wing president Thomas Passah also met the Police Officer in-charge of the traditional market, Iewduh on non-tribals trading without labour license.
Criticising the Hima Mylliem and Khasi Hills Autonomous District Council, the KHNAM said the upsurge of illegal immigrants poses a threat to the indigenous people of the state. “From now on, it is time to cancel issuing trading licenses to non-tribals who are not genuine,” Passah said.
