SHILLONG: The High Court of Meghalaya has directed the state government to bear the medical expenses of CSWO president Agnes Kharshiing and her colleague Amita Sangma.
Hearing a petition filed by Sangma and others on Thursday, the High Court said NEIGRIHMS as well as the state should “ensure that all medical facilities are made available to both the injured social activists”.
The court asked the investigation officer to file a report on the latest status of the inquiry into the attack. The officer was asked to be present in court along with case diary on the next hearing on November 27.
The petitioner in the writ petition prayed for investigation by a specialised agency like the CBI and also prayed for direction to the state government for providing adequate security.
The additional solicitor general said during the hearing that the injured persons “are admitted in NEIGRIHMS and there is no scope for any person to cause harm to them”.
However, the court said the DGP will take “appropriate measures” for ensuring protection of the injured persons.
