SHILLONG: With the aim of celebrating unity in diversity of our Nation and to promote the spirit of national integration, the Reciprocal Inter State Youth Exchange Programme under the nationwide youth programme, “Ek Bharat Shrestha Bharat” was inaugurated by the Chief Adviser to the Government of Meghalaya, Dr. D.D. Lapang in a function held at Youth Hostel, Shillong on Friday.
Speaking on the occasion, DD Lapang has urged upon the youths to go ahead and fight against illiteracy and poverty besides bringing the spirit of national integrity.
He said, “Tomorrow is yours, put your head and heart to build the nation in the spirit of brotherhood.”
He termed the programme as a good initiative to enhance interaction between people of diverse cultures living in different states and union territories in India and for promoting greater mutual understanding amongst them.
The two-week programme is hosted by Nehru Yuva Kendra Sangathan, Shillong, under the Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports, Government of India.
In the first phase of the programme, a delegation of 50 youths from Uttar Pradesh and 50 from Meghalaya will tour the state to learn about the heritage, customs, and tradition of the State and in the second phase, 25 members from the state and 25 from Arunachal Pradesh will visit Lucknow, Uttar Pradesh from December 9 to December 23.
