Hamarsan Sing Thangkhiew appointed Judge of Meghalaya HC

SHILLONG: Senior Advocate Hamarsan Sing Thangkhiew  has been appointed as the new Judge of the High Court of Meghalaya.

A notification in this regard was issued by the Ministry of  Law and Justice ( Department of Justice ) on Saturday

The Supreme Court Collegium  on September 25 had recommended Hamarsan Sing Thangkhiew to be appointed as the Judge of the High Court of Meghalaya.

The recommendation was made by the Chief Justice of Meghalaya High Court on February 26 this year  and Meghalaya government had no objection.

The notification issued by Sadanand Vasant Date, Joint Secretary to the Government of India, on Saturday stated: “In exercise of the powers conferred by clause (I) of Article 217 of the Constitution or India, the President is pleased to appoint Shri Hamarsan Singh Thangkhiew to be a Judge of the Meghalaya High Court with effect from the date he assumes charge of his office.”

The Supreme Court Collegium had considered it fit to appoint Thangkhiew on the basis of the interaction and the material placed before
